I Will Continue To:

Bring a legal perspective to the Board.   An attorney served on the Board for nearly a decade prior to the election in 2004.   Since that election, we have not had an attorney serve as a Trustee.   This is a glaring shortcoming of the Board, as legal issues permeate many of the everyday decisions the Board must make.  Having a legal perspective on the Board will not only result in better decisions, but it will also help the district possibly avoid unnecessary liability.

Work with the community stakeholders and the other Trustees to ensure that Humble I.S.D. is a financially sound district.  Over the past few years, the lack of state funding has caused a critical financial situation for the district.  If our lawmakers in Austin do not increase funding, which is not required by the recent mandate from the Texas Supreme Court, the district will be forced to make cuts.  These cuts will not come easy or without tough decisions. I will advocate the formation of committees of community stakeholders that will have a voice in the process before cuts are made.

Work with the front line professionals in the district—the teachers, principals, and guidance counselors—to develop and continue policies that will ensure that they have what they need to provide an excellent education to all of our students. The burden of complying with the “No Child Left Behind Act” will create an unmanageable workload and put undue stress on our teachers and administrative staff without the proper support of the Board.

Work with community leaders and stakeholders to develop and continue policies that will support our local community.  Humble I.S.D. is the foundation of our community, and it impacts our everyday life, regardless of whether you have children in the district or not.  The value of your home, the amount of your taxes, and local businesses are all impacted by decisions made by the district. Community stakeholders must be involved, which will help build a stronger community.
